Abstract

Eugenics was a scientific paradigm that sustained the biopolitics of reproductive control. From an eugenic rhetoric, advices given by emblematic personalities of the field who dedicated themselves to marriage counseling after 1945, can be read when Eugenics began to develop a veiled diffusion. We will examine two representative figures of this late eugenicism based on the cultural analysis of the discourse in their periodical columns: Paul Popenoe (United States) and Carlos Bernaldo de Quirós (Argentina). The influence of the former on the latter reveals a link between the two countries when it came to establishing eugenic networks and interdiscursivities that shared a common objective: the imposition of heteronormative values in the post-war context.
